Is Fenty Pro Filt’r Breaking Me Out?
If you haven’t heard of Fenty Beauty, I can’t help but question what’s wrong with you? Where have you been? Rihanna is the brainchild of Fenty Beauty which launched in September 2017. Since its conception, Fenty has become a widely respected brand in the beauty community, winning over 17 awards internationally. Fenty’s claim to fame is its formula and inclusivity of beauty in all shades. I was ecstatic to find a shade, that didn’t require using my self-taught degree in fine arts and chemistry. The staying power of this foundation lives up to its name! Needless to say, I love the overall performance of the foundation but was let down in other areas.

Fenty…. I love you, but Pro Filt’r gives me sporadic fine bumps and small breakouts. It took me a year to admit this. I kept thinking it was a personal problem, but it wasn’t! After talking with several others, that experienced the same exact thing, I knew I wasn’t going crazy. A Sephora representative informed my sister, that the formulation was made to hug the skin. Sometimes the product gets clogged into pores causing breakouts. It was recommended to just give Fenty a break from time to time. It was a great tip! It helped minimize some of the fine bumps but I still had small breakouts. (Just an FYI. Yes, I wash my head scarfs and change my pillowcase weekly.)

I was finally able to crack the code to my Fenty induced breakouts. Building the foundation for the foundation is essential. Here are a few tips that can help! Please keep in mind that I have true combination skin and I’m slowly drifting away from the primer hype of makeup.
- Clean skin. Fenty is not a foundation that you can apply after a long day of work or on the go. Freshly cleansed skin is essential before applying.
- Moisturize. Be sure your face is properly moisturized. For best results apply immediately after cleansing and toning. I use a moisturizer with a little weight to it and follow with a drop of almond oil. Trust me it works! I like to wait 5 minutes so that my pores can completely absorb all of the moisturization (and less of the Pro Filt’r).
- This is one of the most important steps to wearing Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation is the removal process. Using makeup remover and cleanser is not enough. You HAVE to use makeup remover, cleanse with a facial brush, AND exfoliate to properly remove all of the product from your face. Your hands aren’t enough to dig deep into your pores. I love my Clarisonic Mia 2 that I’ve had forever (Sorry! They don’t make it anymore). If a Clarisonic is too pricey there are manual and electric brushes that work wonders! Make sure the bristles of the brush aren’t too hard. If so, soak the brush in boiling hot water to help soften the bristles (My Dollar Tree facial cleansing brush worked just fine after I softened it).
- The final and most important step is to give Fenty a break. My skin can’t take wearing it back to back. I only wear it on hot days or special occasions when I need bulletproof staying power.
